Dear Subscriber

This month, we uncover the hottest events in the country and tell you the best times to book a cruise. Our regional editors give you the low-down on where to shop for brand-name bargains. Plus, we hook you up to some last-minute seat sales, and offer two new WHERE contests: prizes include stays in beautiful hotels in Halifax and Vancouver.

WHAT'S HOT IN NOVEMBER:

Canadian Rockies

Jasper Welcomes Winter lets you see the Rockies without breaking the bank or dealing with hordes of tourists. There's hotel discounts, shopping specials (including a craft fair and Midnight Madness), the Festival of Trees and a homespun Santa Claus Parade.

Ottawa

Cirque du Soleil's Delirium wows crowds with its trademark acrobatic flair, plus re-mixed versions of their most popular songs and adornments, Nov 24 and 25 at the Scotiabank Place. For a hot dining tip, check out the bistro Le Saint-O, where France ex-pat Philippe Dupuy blends classic methodology with contemporary flair.

Calgary

Proving that it's never too early to start celebrating the holiday season, beginning Nov 12, Heritage Park opens its doors on weekends for the 12 Days of Christmas. It's a chance to enjoy old-fashioned traditions like horse-drawn wagon rides, carolling, and festively decorated antique houses.

Vancouver

Blood and power are on centre stage as Vancouver Opera opens its season with Macbeth. This production of Giuseppe Verdi's take on Shakespeare's murderous Scottish couple features Met baritone Greer Grimsley in the title role. It runs Nov 25, 28, 30, and Dec 2 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

Halifax

The Holiday Parade of Lights is a beloved seasonal parade which winds its way through the downtown on Nov 18. There'll be floats, marching bands and, of course, Santa Claus. If you're a sports fan, pick up a pair of antlers and cheer the city's hockey team, the Halifax Mooseheads, as they play Chicoutimi Nov 9, and Moncton Nov 29.

Edmonton

One of only three million-dollar rodeos in the world, the Canadian Finals Rodeo is an exciting showcase of the best rough stock, rodeo contestants and bullfighters in the country, Nov 8 to 12. For a little razzle dazzle, the Broadway and Hollywood smash, Chicago takes centre stage at the Jubilee Auditorium Nov 8 to 13.

Toronto

The Radio City Rockettes kick up their heels in Canada for the first time ever, making their way to Toronto's Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts, from Nov 14 through to Dec 31. Also, legendary American singer, songwriter, musician and poet, Bob Dylan plays the Air Canada Centre Nov 7.

Victoria

The city's performing arts stages are full with great shows like Bruce Cockburn, a Queen cover band, the Just for Laughs Comedy Tour and Alberta Ballet's The Nutcracker. Art lovers can enjoy two local self-guided art tours: the Stinking Fish Studio Tour, Nov 25 and 26, and the Downtown Gallery Walk Nov 30.
